Winton Bournemouth Band were first on the streets of Bournemouth in 1887, and during its existence has had 16 Bandmasters, the most recent Norry Smith.
The Band currently numbers 28 Christian men and women drawn from all walks of life, are unpaid volunteers who give freely of their time and talents in order to spread the Gospel of Jesus Christ through music and song.
On Sundays the Band can be found proudly marching the streets in Winton watched with great interest by local residents of all ages. Music for worship is provided at both Sunday services held in the Army's Citadel in Latimer Road.
A regular feature is the Band's visitation to homes for the Elderly and similar institutions and thier practical work in connection with 'The Place Next Door' ; Winton Bournemouth Corps thriving community centre.
During the summer months thousands of visitors swell the congregation of local residents who listen to the Band on Tuesday evenings at the Pine Walk Bandstand - and join those who flock to the Sunday evening 'late' open air service at Bournemouth Pier, a mecca for Christians of all denominations
A variety of employment exists amongst the members of the Band;- Managers, Company Directors, Solicitors, Accountants, Company Representatives, Painter & Decorators, Electrician, Sales Persons, Policemen and Students.
In their working lives, as in their Banding, they continue to uphold the great tradition of Salvation Army Bandsmen and Bandswomen, endeavouring always to attain:-
